BizTalk Community Series: Introducing Scott Banwart

It’s summertime and we are experiencing  heat waves combined with days or rain and clouds here in the Netherlands. I am working at customers, while it’s hot outside, preparing for my marathon in Berlin (end of September) and a few talks for later this year (Norway, Italy). The community is still going strong and a lot of them are contributing through different channels. One of community members is S cott Banwart and today’s story is about him. Scott is 36 years old and lives in Akron , Ohio in the U.S.A. He is the Technology Manager and part-owner of StoneDonut , LLC. “We are a boutique consulting firm specializing in integration, SOA and BPM. In my role as Technology Manager I act as our technical architect, lead developer and manager of our development team.” Scott is a geek to the core, so when he is not writing code for work he can be found writing code for fun. “I like to experiment with other integration-related technologies to find new ways to solve problems. BizTalk REST Support Resources

Microsoft offers REST support in BizTalk Server 2013 through the WCF-WebHttp Adapter . Something that has been anticipated by BizTalk developers for sometime. With BizTalk Server 2010 there was already quite a demand resulting: in a TechNet Wiki Article called Invoke ReSTful Web Services with BizTalk Server 2010 describing a solution to consume Restful services with BizTalk 2010, and a REST Start Kit for BizTalk to provide support for REST made by Microsoft Integration MVP Mikael Håkansson . REST API’s have grown big on the web. Twitter, Google, Salesforce, eBay, Amazon all offer REST API's to use their services. Together with the increase of mobile devices and light weight rich (Ajax) web applications the adoption of REST grows more and more. So the Microsoft BizTalk product group has made a good decision by supporting REST through the new BizTalk release 2013. Since there is so much REST API’s available now it wouldn't be a surprise if this leads to more integration

TechNet Wiki and Integration

Recently I wrote a post for TechNet Wiki Blog and pointed out that many resources can be found through the TechNet Wiki . So in case you want to check out what is available on TechNet Wiki around integration I suggest reading Integration is my business and business is good! . I have been working on a couple of articles for TechNet Wiki last 18 months and published them. I am not the only one. There's a lot of us in the BizTalk community for instance that have published and edited numerous articles. BizTalk PaaS: Windows Azure BizTalk Services – Part IV

In the first post on BizTalk Services I discussed setting up the service in Windows Azure. One of the first steps in the setup was specifying  the database settings, access control and monitoring. In this post I like to discuss the tracking and monitoring of BizTalk Services and deployed solutions. The SQL database is setup for tracking purposes. This database is provisioned in Windows Azure. In the second tab you specify the database setting by providing a name, Server, and credentials. In case you do not have a database server than you need to set that up, see How to Create and Configure SQL Database . In case you want to size the database, choose the edition and collation that you can check the configure advanced database settings option. An extra tab will be available for you to enabling you to specify these settings. After having setup the BizTalk Services you can find the database under SQL Databases in the Windows Azure Portal. You can select the data

BizTalk PaaS: Windows Azure BizTalk Services – Part III

BizTalk Services   provides a great way to build hybrid solutions. It broadens the number of options you have as an architect, developer to design and build integration solution. This new service in Windows Azure offers B2B in the Cloud supporting EDI, Integration with SaaS solutions and create bridges between Line-Of-Business(LOB) systems and the Cloud through various protocols. This service is offered in four tiers: Developer : Interesting for developers to explore the capabilities of the service. Basic : Just as the term offers capabilities for common EAI yet without connectivity towards LOB systems. Standard : This offers more capabilities as connectivity with LOB systems is supported. This means it includes adapters for SAP, Oracle, SQL Server, Oracle eBS and Siebel. These adapters are WCF-based. Standard offers also scaling. Premium : Includes the whole package with B2B capabilities. Note: More specific details of the tiers can be found at BizTalk Services: D

Microsoft Integration MVP 2013

Today I have received an e-mail from Microsoft with exciting news that my MVP status has been renewed again! For me this is the fourth time to receive this award. The third year in the program has been an awesome experience, which gave me the opportunity to do great things and meet inspiring, very skilled people. I have had some interesting speaking engagement, which were fun to do and were very fulfilling. I learned a lot through speaking thanks to the community and fellow MVP's. I was able to share my experiences through these speaking gigs and other channels like this blog, MSDN Gallery, Forums and above all the TechNet Wiki. I would like to thank: My MVP leads William Jansen . BizTalk Product Team, Kent Brown , Guru Venkataraman, Karthik Bharathy, Ed Price, Nitin Mehrota, Mandi Ohlinger, Allesandro Teglia , Paolo Salvatori , Clemens Vasters and all other Microsoft employees involved.
